Manipulation for Back Pain
"The
treatment of back pain has undergone a revolution in the last couple of decades.
It is a lesson in how radically medicine can change its approach. The traditional
treatment of extended bed-rest, traction and manipulation under anesthetic
went out a decade ago," states The New Zealand Herald of Auckland.
The Herald goes on to offer their plan for low back sufferers, "Swallow a couple of Paracetamol (Tylenol), get some physical manipulation if necessary to get them back on their feet and above all, keep moving."
Compared to traction and bed rest, I suppose they offer good counsel, not unlike the recommendations of the AHCPR from 1994, but still deficient from our perspective. Below are links to back research from all over the world.
